🎻 Ethnic and folk music — German

German music covers a vast body of regional, art and popular traditions. Schlager, Alpine Volksmusik, brass bands and regional songs coexist with a major classical heritage represented notably by Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and Wagner. In the 20th century, krautrock, Kraftwerk and other German groups played a pioneering role in experimental rock and electronic music. Berlin, Frankfurt and other cities later contributed to the development of techno, trance and many alternative scenes. German-language pop, rap, metal, rock and dialect song remain very present on national and regional radio.
