🌍 World Music — Andalusian

Andalusian music can refer to two distinct bodies of music: the music of present-day Andalusia, including flamenco, sevillanas, verdiales and various types of fandango, and the classical Arab-Andalusian music preserved mainly in the Maghreb. The latter, rooted in traditions linked to Al-Andalus and later transformed in North African cities, is often organised into suites called nubas. It includes several regional schools, such as the ala in Morocco, the san'a and gharnati in Algeria, or the malouf in Tunisia and Libya. Kept alive by associations, orchestras, conservatories and festivals, it remains a living scholarly tradition rather than a mere historical relic.
