🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Brazilian

Brazilian music results from complex encounters between African, European and indigenous traditions, further enriched by numerous migrations. Samba, developed in several forms in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, plays a central role in carnival celebrations but does not exhaust the country's diversity. Bossa nova, choro, forró, frevo, maracatu, axé, sertanejo, música popular brasileira and funk carioca each have their own social and regional contexts. Afro-Brazilian candomblé traditions have also strongly shaped the country's rhythms, songs and instruments. Contemporary radio and streaming platforms broadcast sertanejo and funk as much as pop, rap, gospel and regional scenes.
