🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Croatian

Croatian music varies between the Adriatic, Dinaric, Pannonian and Central European regions. Klapa, traditional polyphonic singing from Dalmatia, is generally performed a cappella or with discreet accompaniment and can today be sung by male, female or mixed ensembles. In the country's interior, the tamburica, violins, bagpipes and various village songs hold an important place. Ojkanje, an archaic chant from certain Dinaric regions, is another remarkable vocal tradition. Pop, rock and festival song developed well before independence in 1991, notably within the Yugoslav music scene, and remain very active today.
