🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Spanish

Spanish music includes very diverse regional traditions and cannot be summed up by flamenco alone. Flamenco developed mainly in Andalusia with a central role played by Andalusian Gitanos; its origins cannot be reduced to a clearly established mix of three cultures — Gitano, Arab and Jewish. Aragonese jota, Catalan sardana, Galician muiñeira, Basque trikitixa, rondalla music and songs from various regions complete this heritage. Copla, Catalan rumba and singer-songwriter chanson also marked 20th-century popular music. Madrid's Movida encouraged the renewal of pop and rock after the end of Francoism, while pop, rock, rap and urban music remain very dynamic today.
