🌍 World Music — Dutch

Dutch music encompasses the music of the Netherlands as a whole; the term "Holland" strictly refers to only two provinces, even though it is often used by extension. The country is particularly influential in electronic music, notably trance, house, hardcore, gabber and hardstyle. Levenslied is a tradition of sentimental popular song, while brass bands, wind orchestras, mechanical organs and regional songs remain present. Dutch rock gained international visibility as early as the 1960s and 1970s with bands such as Golden Earring, Shocking Blue and Focus. Pop, Dutch-language hip-hop, indie rock and electronic festivals today dominate a significant part of national broadcasting.
