Jewish music reflects the history of communities established in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and the Americas. Klezmer is a festive instrumental tradition of Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern Europe, historically carried by the violin, clarinet, tsimbl and other instruments. Sephardic repertoires notably include songs in Judeo-Spanish, while Mizrahi communities have traditions linked to the Arab, Persian, Kurdish or Yemenite worlds. Liturgical practices vary by rite and include biblical cantillation, psalms, piyyutim and cantorial singing. Contemporary Israeli music blends Hebrew song, Mizrahi influences, pop, rock, rap, electronic music and repertoires from various diasporas.
