🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Nepalese
Rádio NOS - Chorinho Cia Channel
Nepalese music brings together the traditions of many communities from the Himalayas, the valleys and the Terai plains. The sarangi is particularly associated with the itinerant gandharva musicians, while the madal accompanies many popular songs and dances. Newar, Tamang, Gurung, Sherpa, Tharu, Maithili and other cultures each have their own instruments, languages and repertoires. Buddhist chanting is important in several communities of Tibetan culture, but it does not characterise all mountain-region music. Adhunik geet, modernised folk song, pop, rock, rap and film music today form an active scene, particularly in Kathmandu and in the diaspora.
