🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Polish

Polish music includes national dances such as the polonaise, mazurka, kujawiak, oberek and krakowiak. Chopin transformed some of these forms in his piano works, but his mazurkas are not mere transcriptions of folklore. Regions have their own instruments, songs and styles, notably among the górale highlanders of the Tatra Mountains, where violins and basses accompany vigorous dances. Poland also has an important classical, choral, jazz and poetic song tradition. Rock, metal, hip-hop and disco polo today occupy very different but significant places in popular musical culture.
