🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Romanian

Romanian music includes regional peasant traditions, urban music and the professional practice of the lăutari, often but not exclusively Roma. The violin, cobza, nai, ţambal and various accordions are among the common instruments depending on the region. Improvisation and virtuosity characterise many lăutari ensembles, but cannot be attributed indiscriminately to all Romanian folklore. The doina, a free and highly ornamented song, is one of the country's important vocal forms. Contemporary manele combines Balkan and Ottoman heritage, pop, electronic music and Roma influences, while folk, rock and classical music also remain very present.
