Russian music includes village songs, Orthodox liturgical traditions, urban romances, regional music and a significant classical heritage. The balalaika, domra, gusli and bayan (a chromatic button accordion) are among its most emblematic instruments, though their use varies by repertoire. Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff and Stravinsky contributed greatly to the international reach of Russian art music. Estrada refers to a broad tradition of Soviet and later post-Soviet popular song and entertainment, rather than a strictly homogeneous genre. Rock, pop, rap, singer-songwriter chanson and electronic music now hold an important place across the entire Russian-speaking world.
