🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Slovenian

Slovene music blends Alpine, Pannonian, Mediterranean and Balkan traditions, connected to Austria, Italy, Croatia and other neighbouring regions. From the 1950s onward, brothers Slavko and Vilko Avsenik created and popularised Oberkrainer, or narodno-zabavna glasba, a popular folk music combining notably accordion, clarinet, trumpet, guitar and bass. Their style had a major influence across the Alpine and German-speaking world. Slovenia, however, already had a pop, rock, punk and experimental scene well before its independence in 1991. Folk-pop, choral singing, alternative rock, electronic and avant-garde music coexist today in a particularly diverse musical landscape.
