🌍 World Music — Togolese

Togolese music reflects the diversity of the Ewe, Mina, Kabye, Tem, Moba and many other communities. Drums, bells, rattles, call-and-response singing and dance play an important role, but the expression "talking drums" cannot sum up all these traditions. Ewe repertoires from the south often rely on polyrhythmic ensembles, while the north has other vocal, instrumental and ceremonial forms. Highlife, afrobeat and Congolese music strongly influenced Lomé's urban scenes, without being genres properly originating from Togo. Gospel, afro-pop, rap and local dance music today form a very active output, broadcast in Togo and in the diaspora.
