🌍 World Music — Ukrainian

Ukrainian music includes a vast heritage of ritual, lyrical, historical and polyphonic songs, as well as regional instrumental traditions. The bandura, a plucked string instrument notably linked to kobzar bards, has become a national symbol, alongside the kobza, sopilka, cymbalum and other instruments. Polyphonic songs may be performed by female or mixed groups and differ by region. White-voice singing, epic dumy and Carpathian music are among its important forms. DakhaBrakha, Onuka and other artists today reuse these materials in contemporary folk, rock and electronic music, while music has played an increasing role in expressing national identity since 2014 and especially since 2022.
