🎻 Ethnic and folk music — Moroccan

Moroccan music combines Arabic-speaking, Amazigh, Andalusian, African, Saharan and Jewish traditions. Moroccan chaâbi refers to several forms of festive urban popular music, while gnawa music combines the guembri, metal qraqeb castanets, singing and spiritual practices. Amazigh traditions include notably ahwach, ahidous, rwais and many regional repertoires from the Rif, the Atlas and the Souss. Morocco also has Arab-Andalusian al-âla music, the poetic melhoun, aïta and Judeo-Moroccan traditions. Raï historically originates from western Algeria, though it is also listened to and performed in Morocco; rap, pop, fusion and electronic music today complete this diversity.
